Officials of the Week

The primary focus of the SIOC is to encourage Intramural officials to better themselves during the course of a season. As a result, it is important to recognize those individuals who have dedicated themselves to become the best officials they could be. During every season, officials are observed by Intramural staff. Each official that officiates in a particular sport is automatically nominated for the award for that sport.

During the month of March, officials and Intramural staff complete nomination ballots and turn them in. The total of the officials vote counts for 25% of the voting. The officials coordinator and evaluators votes count for 50% and the Assistant Director's vote counts for 25% of the total vote count.

During the awards banquet in April, officials are rewarded with 14 individual awards and their names are put on a plaque in the SRC Alumni Lounge. More specifically the following awards are awarded annually.

Major Awards:

Official of the Year: Plaque and $250.00
Rookie of the Year: Plaque and special award
Basketball Official of the Year: Plaque
Flag Football Official of the Year: Plaque
Softball Official of the Year: Plaque

Officials of the Week:

Officials of the Week are named at the end of every week, starting with Flag Football in the Fall and Basketball in the Spring. Officials are nominated by Head Officials and IM Staff. Some of the qualities that the staff looks for when nominating officials are:

Professional Appearance
Positive Attitude
Demonstrated ability to apply the rules
Displayed good communication with players, officials, and staff
Displayed good game control

The same criteria is used for Officials of the Week, Officials of the Year, and Head Official of the Year.
